A Patient Journey: Overcoming PCOD and Irregular Menses with Lachesis

By Dr. Devendra Kumar Munta, MD (Homeo)

In medical practice, each patient tells a unique story. Today, I’d like to share a particularly enlightening case involving a 31-year-old female patient, M.Y.N.J., who came to my clinic seeking relief from a variety of symptoms linked to Polycystic Ovarian Disease (PCOD) and irregular menstrual cycles.

A Patient Journey: Overcoming PCOD and Irregular Menses with Lachesis

Initial Consultation

M.Y.N.J. arrived with complaints of pain and swelling in the left parotid region, accompanied by irregular menses and various other left-sided issues. During our discussions, it became evident that she had a loquacious and dynamic personality, and she also presented with obesity. Interestingly, she had a notable craving for fresh air which often provided her comfort.

Considering the holistic approach of homeopathy, I prescribed a dose of Lachesis 200c. While Lachesis would be our primary remedy, I also utilized other remedies tailored to her specific symptoms over the course of her treatment.

Tracking Progress: A Journey Through Time

5th March 2011: Initial symptoms included pain and swelling in the left parotid.

11th May 2011: Irregular menses were noted, and I introduced Rubarun 200c.

4th August 2011: Menses accompanied by gastric discomfort prompted the use of Lycopodium 200c.

Continuously monitoring her progress, I made adjustments as needed:

  • 30th September 2011: Noticed weakness in the evening and potential yeast infection. Administered Natrum Muriaticum 200c.
  • 17th November 2011: The patient was noted as obese, and treated with Medorrhinum 200c.
  • 24th December 2011: Addressed premenstrual syndrome with Lachesis 200c once again.

As time progressed, M.Y.N.J. continued to demonstrate a fluctuating pattern with her menstrual cycles. Here are some key updates:

  • 2nd July 2012: No menses and a decrease in cravings for sweets resulted in the use of Graphites 1m.
  • 30th July 2012: Development of 3-5 mm follicles prompted further treatment with Lachesis 0/1.

The Turning Point

By 11th August 2012, we finally observed the arrival of her menses! This moment marked a significant milestone in her treatment path, with subsequent treatments yielding regular cycles by 15th November 2013.

Reflections on Holistic Treatment

Through this journey, I employed a series of remedies, including:

  • Graphites
  • Natrum Muriaticum
  • Silicea
  • Pulsatilla

The treatments pivoted around her symptoms and her overall well-being rather than a mere focus on her condition. M.Y.N.J.’s case underscores the potential of homeopathy in managing PCOD and irregular menstrual cycles, particularly the versatility of Lachesis at different potencies to address her symptoms comprehensively.

Final Thoughts

This case serves not only as a testament to the importance of individualized treatment approaches in homeopathy but also as a beacon of hope for those struggling with similar conditions. Each step in the treatment path highlighted the power of holistic care in guiding patients toward restored health and balance, paving the way for regularity and ease in their menstrual health.
