Innovative Homeopathic Solutions for Sciatica: A Case Study
By Dr. Devendra Kumar Munta, MD (Homeo)

Yesterday, a 48-year-old washerman arrived at my clinic in considerable distress, grappling with severe back pain radiating down his right leg. The struggle was evident; he limped in with his son by his side, seeking relief at a time when his options appeared limited. Having consulted with an allopathic physician and an orthopedic surgeon, he was diagnosed with lumbar disc prolapse. The recommendation was surgery—a decision he was reluctant to make due to conversations he’d had with peers who reported recurring pain even post-operatively.
In our practice, we embrace innovative methods, and I was eager to demonstrate the effectiveness of homeopathy in this challenging case. We employed a new technique for remedy selection using a state-of-the-art data logger, which tracks temperature variability every second. From this detailed process, we collected over 300 readings that gave us insights into his physiological state.
Here are some selected temperature variability readings I recorded during the session:
92.621, 93.612, 92.433, 91.262, 90.704, 90.657, 91.076, 92.386, 92.574, 91.262, 92.245, 92.48, 91.729, 90.89, 91.076, 92.715, 91.963, 92.01, 90.75, 91.496, 92.386, 91.963, 92.245, 92.95, 92.574, 91.776, 92.104, 91.87, 91.823, 92.809, 91.589, 92.433, 91.917, 92.057, 93.045, 91.496, 92.339, 91.683, 91.636, 91.636, 91.262, 91.776, 91.87, 92.386, 91.449, 91.356.
The data features variations in temperature that are essential for determining the most compatible homeopathic remedy. The temperature variability graph derived from these readings offers a visual representation, guiding us on the remedy selection journey.
As we analyzed the data, we compared the patient’s temperature variability with established remedy variability data. The most closely related remedies were cataloged as follows:
Remedy | Variability |
---|---|
Kalium Carbonicum | 0.195716 |
Medorrhinum | 0.19128 |
Silicea | 0.155083 |
Ignatia | 0.149602 |
Lycopodium | 0.14156 |
Physostigma | 0.138039 |
Pulsatilla | 0.134855 |
Phosphorus | 0.12514 |
Hepar Sulph | 0.115676 |
Thuja | 0.115381 |
The primary finding indicated that the patient’s temperature variability was most aligned with Kalium Carbonicum. Interestingly, Medorrhinum, traditionally known for its effectiveness in sciatica cases, closely followed, indicating that it could also be a strong secondary option if the primary remedy does not yield the intended results.

Ultimately, I selected Kalium Carbonicum as the remedy of choice for this patient suffering from severe sciatica pain. What sets homeopathy apart in this scenario is its holistic approach to understanding and treating the patient as a whole rather than merely addressing the symptoms.
As this case illustrates, thoughtful integration of technology and traditional homeopathic principles can unlock new pathways to healing, offering hope to those who may have exhausted conventional avenues. It’s exciting to witness the promising outcomes of such innovative practices in our healthcare field!
Stay tuned for more insights as we explore the intersection of homeopathy and modern diagnostic tools, and the marked difference they can make in patient care.

Now this patient is very much happy with Homoeopathic treatment, He is happy that surgery was avoided.
Just now this patient came for follow up and informed that pain came down to knee joint right, but with sleepless nights. again checked with datalogger and given Silicea 200c – 2 pills.let us see the result.
The next morning patient came for information that back pain relieved most, and pain shifted to knee joint. but overall feeling relieved when compared to previous day, the day before medicine.
