Ankylosing Spondylosis and a dose of Calcarea Carbonica 200c

A Journey Toward Relief: Homeopathy and a Case of Ankylosing Spondylosis

By Dr. Devendra Kumar Munta, MD (Homeo)

In my practice, I have encountered many cases that highlight the diverse challenges faced by patients dealing with chronic conditions. Today, I want to share the journey of a patient who came to me suffering from what was diagnosed as ankylosing spondylosis at NIIM in Hyderabad, India.

This particular case is intriguing not just because of the condition itself but also due to the complexities surrounding its diagnosis and treatment. Previously, another similar case had presented itself at NIIMS, where the treating physician suggested steroid injections without any guaranteed results. Upon examining the patient, it became clear that both cases were HLA B27 negative, leaving many uncertainties regarding the diagnosis of ankylosis. It’s worth noting that ankylosis often becomes a diagnosis of exclusion amidst a multitude of differing opinions from various specialists. Some proposed that the joint pains had a rheumatic origin, while others leaned towards infective arthritis, adding layers of confusion to an already challenging diagnosis.

In the realm of homeopathy, we approach these conditions with a distinct philosophy. Instead of solely focusing on the label of the disease, homeopathy emphasizes the peculiar symptoms presented by the patient. This ensures that we aren’t swayed by a blanket term but are instead tailoring our treatment to the individual’s unique experience. Diagnosis, in this context, is merely a guide for outlining the prognosis and not a definitive answer.

My recent patient, a 29-year-old man and camera assistant, saw his life take a downturn due to his condition. His battle with pain led him to relinquish his job, and despite trying multiple medications, he found no respite. A ray of hope emerged when someone suggested he seek homeopathic consultation in Machilipatnam, prompting him to travel an exhausting 480 kilometers from Hyderabad.

Upon beginning treatment with homeopathic remedies, I was pleased to observe some significant improvements from the very first day. Remarkably, my patient was able to sleep without relying on painkillers, something he hadn’t experienced in quite some time. Regular monitoring of his ESR (Erythrocyte Sedimentation Rate) levels became a crucial part of his treatment plan; a declining ESR indicated positive progress and allowed us to maintain the same course of remedy without rushing into changes.

Here’s a brief overview of his treatment timeline:

  • 29th October 2013: Joint pains intensified following the surgical removal of a lipoma on the dorsal region. Treatment started with RT 200c.
  • 12th November 2013: Notably, the patient reported some relief after receiving CC 200c.
  • 12th December 2013: Continued improvement led to the prescription of SL 200c, with less pain and discomfort during urination.
  • 20th January 2014: The patient exhibited an ESR of 18 mm and a hemoglobin level of 15.4 mg%, alongside minor twitching of the eyes. We proceeded with Bell 200c.

As we progressed through the months, not only did the patient experience physical relief, but also a renewal of hope in managing his condition. To me, this case reinforces the idea that homeopathy can significantly stimulate the body’s internal healing processes, offering a path toward wellness that is both safe and effective.

If you’re struggling with chronic joint pain or similar conditions, I encourage you to explore the homeopathic approach. It offers not just a different perspective but the potential for profound relief and a better quality of life.
